Herniated l4-l5 disc need help
I have a 5.4 mm herniated disc l4-l5 that is causing sciatia down my right leg all the way down to foot. I have seen two spine doctors and they all say to try the epidural injections first. The injections seem lime a temporary fix for a few weeks to months and then back to the decision of whether or not to have surgery. I would like to just have a micro discetomy however the spine dr I saw today said that the herniation is in a difficult spot on the l4-l5 area to reach and that if I had a discectomy then he would have to cut through bone to reach the proper places. He then said that he would advise toward a disc fusion with screws and such. I sure as heck dont want that done. I am 35 and do not want to start a long line of back surgeries. Do an one have any input and why he would want to do a fusion instead of a discectomy? Please help as I am in intense pain and my dos wont even give me pain meds. What are your views of epidural injections other then just a way to pad the dr's wallet.
