How do I find a great neurosurgeon?

Started by southsidemike on 07/30/2010 10:04pm

I need a Cervical Disectomy and Fusion on C3-4 and C4-5. I live in the Chicago metro so there is no shortage of neurosurgeons. How so I find one. My pain management doctor has made a recommendation but how so I know how he rates/compares against/to others of his profession.
It is a worker’s comp claim so I can’t visit too many doctors to “interview” them. Just how can I pick a good one to work on my spine?

Use s SpineUniverse "Find a Specialist" tool. Compare doctors, their CV's, look for patient experiences...

Look for a surgeon (whether Ortho or Neuro Spine) that is fellowship trained in Spinal Surgery...which means after their residency they completed another full year in JUST spine surgery. It's similar to Plastic Surgery, I don't think i would see a plastic surgeon who hadn't done an extensive fellowship in the field. Hope that is a little insight but also just ask around and check ratings on internet as well.
