Help!! Going to the orthopedist!!
6 weeks ago I was training for 10k race and I injured what seemed like my knee. After a couple days, I felt the pain travel to my left hip as well. I went to see a chiropractor for the pain in my hip and he told me that I had scoliosis and after an ultrasound, he told me that I had a posterior disc bulge on my L5. He said that I would get better with chiropractic care. So I continued with the treatment. I had NEVER had any back pain prior to this treatment!! After each adjustment, the pain in my lower back got worse. He told me that this is normal and part of the process, which made sense to me. After about 12 adjustments, I started noticing weakness/slight numbness in the left leg--knee still hurts. I was freaked out by this so I disconinued treatment and made an appointment with an orthopedist who specializes in spinal injuries. I have never had an injury like this in my life and I am 32 years old--healthy and active (not so much lately) and normal weight. I will not have surgery unless my life is at risk or I am at risk of permanent paralysis and I will not take narcotics ever!!
Basically any advice would be great, like what to expect, what questions to ask,and input from anyone who has recovered from this condition and returned to a normal life without surgery or narcotics would be appreciated.
