Can someone help me with my Diagonsis??????

Started by jackiedisloved on 09/06/2010 12:08pm

I finally was approved for Physical medicine & rehabilitation... After my examination it read . I get a EMG test done on the 10th of this month as well as a X ray of my back, ultra sound and Cat scan on my kidney. I got the X ray done and it said Mild Scoliosis and moderate bulge disk on L5-L6. I am in so much pain. I have to sleep with a pillow between my legs because if my bones touch my legs will ache. It feels like my knees and thighs are going to explode with pain... All my joints hurt. I have muscle spasms all the time... When I am driving, my muscles tighten up and get stiff... My back is killing me. Does anyone have any advice????
Can someone explain this to me, and what exactly does unspecified mean???
Also, may one exactly what exactly does physical medicine & rehabilitation mean and what will he or she do and provide?????
Thank you soooo much

Hello, I hope that you are doing well and have had some of your questions answered by medical professionals. The First diagnosis is daunting because it could be anything, and no one would want to comment on this, at least people who aren't doctors or trained professionals.

Two of your categories are easy to understand, including the carpal tunnel syndrome, and the degeneration of disc. Basically you have degenerative disk disease. If you still don't know, and I am in Canada and have had a hard time asking doctors to tell me what is specifically wrong with my back, just check words like radiculitis out on the web.

I hope you are doing better! Take care, Rangdrol

I feel for you , as I have been diagnosed with several conditions relating to Degenerative Disc Disease, but, I do get the occasional Neurologist cop out. "you have fibromyalgia. ( even when the diagnosis is sitting in front of him, with the assessment coming from a former colleague. There seems to be a battle of the professional opinions where this condition is involved. I suppose they have their reasons, but, seems that even before the records were looked at, or even an exam, the F word came out......way too easily. Leaving the office in tears, the Neurologist thought he might as well order a total MRI of my spine, along with an emg, then referred me to a surgeon, immediately. Thank Goodness things happened that way or no doubt my time walking and living independently would be cut shorter than I thought.
Good luck to you, just see if you can get more than one opinion, as it took many years to get where I am at, and it seems that the newer physicians don't wanna hear what you already know, but, want to start the whole process over. It is frustrating, and I don't have 20 more years to go through this til the end. I now am awaiting surgery on just one of 19 bad discs, only because it is compressing the spinal cord.
I hope all goes well with you and I will be watching out for you to make sure youre doing ok...
thanks
Melissa

Sounds you are in the middle stages of needing some serious surgeries. I Have had a lower lumbar fusion dome about 6 yrs. ago. It changed my life. Some for the better and some for the worse. Physical Medicine & Rehab is who I use for Pain Management. I have had 10 different injections in my back trying to find what is causing my extreme pain even though I had the L4/L5 fused. Sometimes those surgeries don't fix everything but they will help. Sounds like the Physical Medicine Facility should be able to manage your Pain for you and strengthen your muscles so you can be a candidate for more serious surgeries. Carpel Tunnel is usually from Rheumatoid Arthritis or the start of it. Keep reading on things and get yourself well advised for your next visit to your Doctor. Ask tons of questions and get tons of answers. My doctors tell me I have done my homework. It will be a big pay off for you in the long run.
GOOD LUCK
