I was wondering if any of you have had children following a discectomy? I had my L5S1 discectomy a year and a half ago and we are thinking about trying for a child soon. However I have been told that following my above surgery its best if a Caesarean is planned and I am concerned about the Anasthesia - as far as I know I cannot opt to have Spinal or Epidural because of my discectomy. I have 3 more prolapsed discs however I have been exercising and attending pilates classes to strengthen my back. So I will definitely need to be more careful if I do get preg. What anasthesia have you had and any tips are welcome! I dont wish to be under general anesthesia and miss our baby being born!

I know this isn't helpful to your situation but I am in a very similar one myself. I had the same surgery as well as having Degenerative Disc Disease. In unbelievable pain currently. They are actually telling me that I would probably need narcotic meds during my second and third trimesters and would def. be have a C-section. I didn't know about the anesthesia however, which just upsets me even more. Hang in there and feel free to contact me if you need to chat. <3

I do hope you are now feeling better and if you do have any reply re the anasthesia it would help. Using an exercise ball for restful positions help and so does swimming and pilates. Wish you the best of luck!
