I forgot to ask my doctor about an inversion table but he did prescribe a Lumbar traction device for me. Its this one: http://www.empi.com/empi_products/detail.aspx?id=232 I was a little skeptical but after I used it the first time (lay there and rest for about 5-10 min after you use it to relax your back) I felt 100 times better. Its easy to setup too. Hopefully your insurance will cover the device like mine did.

I have chronic low back pain due to spinal arthritis and I got a Trekke Lumbar Lift device which I can put on and wear all day, no matter what the acitivity. It has proven to be very comfortable and pain relieving.
