Lumbar Fusion at L5/S1

Started by CurtisG on 04/09/2015 3:29pm

I have a question for anyone who knows. I had a fusion in 2008 at L4/5 and I now need a fusion at L5/S1 due to Degenerative Disc Disease. My doctor wants to do a 360 fusion and put new screws in my previous fusion, esentially extending my fuion to L5/S1. Is this normal? I am not excited about removing the previous screws at L4/5 to extend my previous fusion. When I asked him about it he first told me that he could do it from the front and not touch my hardware at L4/5. He then changed his mind and said he would need to do a 360 and extend my hardware.

Thanks in advance for any insight.
