spine surgery

Started by caldwellt100 on 10/02/2012 2:12am

I have had disc replacement fusion in my neck, no problems. I went back to work at a very physical job. Recently I had a lower spine fusion. This is giving me a hard time. I take 3 muscle relaxer/nerve pills, Meds for depression. The pain I have is way worse than what I had before the surgery. Hindsight is 20/20. If I knew there was going to be this much pain and limitations I would have never had the surgery. I was a single mom that was used to playing ball my kids, and going to their games. Now I don't get out of the house unless it is a doctors appointment. I have so much scar tissue surrounding the nerves, it is cutting some off. I have an appointment with a big city doctor to see if they can help me. The doctor that did the surgery I refuse to go back to because when I told him I was having problems, he informed me that his surgery was successful and I wasn't in pain. Now I have bad discs in the middle of my back. Will I ever be able to play with my grandkids?they keep asking why I can't play with them. My last surgery was a year and a half ago. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Miss Caldwellt, I hope your with a good pain mangement doctor by now trying all kinds of different things. My doc that did my lumbar fusion said the same to me at 3 months said I fixed you.I was in so much pain walking with a cane. Walked out of the room and that was the last time I seen him. It`s been PM since and this surgeon in Jersy Fixing me. I had to have my fusion so was i worse after YES. But I was going to be bone on bone. Are you still working? Only about 1 out of 10 go back to work after a lumbar fusion. A workmans comp guy told me that after I had mine. I wish i had something good to say. I`m having a SCS put in on the 11th I hope it helps for ever. The trial worked great. Sam

Yes they give me pain meds which either put me to sleep or make me so I consider it too much of a risk to have my grandbabies with me alone. No I am not working my job fired me the day I got out of the hospital. If you are referring to the stimulator I have a TENS unit that I use alot. I refuse to get one implanted because of all the bad reports that I have gotten for people I know that had that. I just want to be able to walk around the block with my grandbaby, which now I do good to walk around the house sometimes use a walker. They have also to me I have some bad discs in the middle of my back, I have very bad arthritis or DDD.

You will meet the surgeon carrying out your procedure to discuss your care. It may differ from what is described here as it will be designed to meet your individual needs.
