Nerve Block in Neck Any Advice?

From: bslovers - on 04/22/2010 10:33am

I am due to get a nerve block in my neck in early May. My dad, my uncle and my aunt all said not to do it as their doctors have said it's too risky does anyone else agree? Has anyone had one before and what was the out come? I have two kids that are 1 and 2. I have a job. I can't be paralyzed or anything not even laid up as I'm a single mom. Someone please give me any advice you've got!

I've had two occipital nerve blocks and I couldn't really tell that it helped. I also had the facet joint injections and they were not helpful either. I did not have any problems with the procedures though, and for some people they work. I am on pain management meds and they help me sleep, but through the day I generally just suffer. I have found a therapist that does deep tissue massage and that is helpful, although it is not a cure. Best of luck to you. Hope you find something that gives you relief.

Are you seeing a Pain Specialist? I have had one nerve block and the shots can be painful, but the first injection is to numb the area of the neck. My doctor uses a Floroscope during the entire procedure to know exactly where to place the needles for my injections. You have to make sure this doctor or any other doctor is using the FLOROSCOPE Machine if not dont do the procedure. Afte the procedure the other reaction I had was unable to stand up so I had to sit for about 1/2 hour before leaving the office. I did drive myself to the doctor office, but I called husband to come get me in fear of driving. Your neck will be sore for couple of days afterward. I am now going back for my 2nd nerve block May 4th, 2010 and the first one was done 3 months ago. I hope I have help you with your question.

This way late, but will say I have had eight nerve blocks in my neck at one time..this has happened twice.PAINFUL!! The first one lasted three weeks and yesterday I had eight more..next in Feb.I will have another this time the doctor will put me under..not sure what this is but I will be glad when we are finished..I will explain the blocks...4 shots on the left and four shots on the right side of my neck..This was due from a motorcycle accident and one year later a three car accident..My car was hit last and I was sitting still to turn..was hit 45mph..needless to say I am on the alert when a car comes up on me now..

I had my whole right side done. C-1 thru C-6, and it was extremely painful and it didn't work for me. It is your decision to make. I thought it would work for me, but if anything, it made me worse. That's the only advise I can give you. Good Luck.

This response is almost 3 years later and I want to know the results, if done, on your nerve block. I had only nerve blocks performed in my facet area in L3-4 and I was under. It was painful when I woke up but after- I felt a relief which is truly magical. It's only been about 2ish months later and it's still working but my doctor said relief can and only last for 8 weeks - 2 years and it is different for every patient. How did it work for you?

Hi BSlovers, There are 1000s of ppl that go to my PM {surgeon)that gives nerve blocks no one has been paralyzed. They say nerve blocks work half the time. That`s better odds than surgery. When you have any spine troubles you have a bad road ahead. Please I`m not being nasty (I no your family loves you) ask them what are you to do. I`ve done everything still in major pain.

Any blog about pain treatment, no matter where the pain is located or treatment plan by injection, medication, excerise, it all comes down to rolling the dice, playing the game as a referance. Do this or take that and stand on your head, there are no definate answers but we linger in hope maybe it will work for me. yet, every humane body has differant chemical makeup so the medications and injections
can not be determined if its going to work.
unfortunatly, it's a long hard road to endure the treatment plans, or as the case may be the phycians just does not listen to the complaints, yet you know you are living in unbearable pain and fine articles on the internet similar to your issue that also confirms what you know. The thought stays in your head just like the choices of treatmeat plans but worse that your ignored Then find another physcian and sometimes miracals happen. Sometimes miracles never come. Endurance is the pricless key.
