complications with L4, L5, S1 fusion

Started by Mweitzel on 12/26/2013 6:51pm

I am a 36 yr old health care worker who had a multi fusion with cages in Sept 2013, since I have had a total of 5 surgeries due to infection and a puncture in the sheath of my spinal cord causing fluid to leak. They have now left the wound open to heal from the inside out, my fiance packs a dry dressing in the opening twice a day, also am recieving IV antibiotics daily because the infection is still there and wrapped around the metal that is in my back. I just wanted to see if anyone else has had this kind of complication and will it ever end??? Very stressed and still in so much pain, wondering if I did the right thing...

Wow you are young to have had that surgery on your back. I am in my early 50's and been told I am too young yet..!!!
I have spondylolthesis L5/S1. and getting progressively worse. My back makes so much noise, grating and grinding. I have had two epidurals in the past two years and at least I no longer have a numb foot/leg.
I think I do need to seriously think about when I want to have a spinal fusion done. The slippage has got worse in the past year but my consultant has said I should go away and just live with it for as long as I can....
I hope you are getting better and not in so much pain. Did you injure your back through your work??
