ACDF C4-5-6-7 and assorted trash
I had an ACDF and instrumentation in July 2009. Everything was ok for a while but then the pain and loss of range of motion got worse. Had Physical Therapy, had trigger point injections, was taking opiates for the pain (developed allergic reactions to them) and as of last week, I had my first epidural which did absolutely nothing. Had an EMG today and everything was normal with the hands and arms but when she got to the neck, the noise was outrageous not to mention the pain of the needle stick. I felt like throwing up immediately. Well by the time I got to my car, the pain was back full force to include the migraine like occipital headache. The neurologist who did the EMG said that the pain is definitely cause by my neck and I might want to consider a previous recommendation of posterior decompression. Not what I wanted to hear. I also had a sleep study last week which was dreadful, even the tech was shocked by the results. I can't get comfortable because of my neck so I spend half the night doing the crocodile "death roll" trying to find the right position and sleep. I had an MRI in Nov of last year and the summary was"Nothing significant" (except for the hardware in my neck that is) and less than a year later (Aug 11) the summary was formanial narrowing, stenosis and compression, oh and uncovertebral hypertrophy. Seemed like a lot of changes in those months. All big words that the only thing I can decipher is arthritis. Not sure what to do next. Have been in the Army for over 20 years and of course they are trying to give me the big boot out. Depressing.
