pain in the neck

Started by pamiesue on 06/20/2010 6:06pm

Does anyone have any help for these symptoms? I have bulging disks C5,6,& 7. I have fibromyalgia and chronic pain, but occasionally I get a pinch in my neck on the left side. I cannot swallow, speak or move my head backwards. The pain is excruciating and I have tried everything. muscle relaxers, pain pills, Valium, heat and ice. This can last from two to four hours, and until I get to a Doctor they think I am crazy because everything is resolved.

Good reason to try alternative approaches - acupuncture, homeopathy, etc.

Im so sorry you r in this pain, I can say I have total compassion for what you r enduring because I also have FM/CFS, Raynauds Phenomenom, R. Arthritis-as you well know the monster list of daily symptoms has NO boundaries and for me neck pain is one of the main symptom that is soooo severe 24/7 and with meds, hot/cold wraps, showers muscle rubs, therapy etc...for three yrs I have done it all, what works best for me and this is my own personal opinion, im not a dr however my rheumatoligist prescribed me xanax, I hate meds that make you feel weird or loopy, but i tried it one day I was in SEVERE pain and desperate...it has been a real help for the neck pain. Think about it: you begin to feel the pain and you think immediately to focus on it causing sress, tension, anxiety, and worry as the pain grows your body muscles especially neck and shoulders for me get tense tighten without you realizing it. xanax is for anxiety, stress and helps me to not focus on the neck pain and in turn, before I realize it the pain is quite minimal. I take very small doses and one at night. That has helped me the best, and I know it is hard to cope with, I hope you find what works for you! :)

Best Wishes!

Pamiesue, I have been suffering for 16 years and have finnaly made the decesion to have surgery in my neck I still have time to chicken out because my surgery is scheduled for Oct. I can no longer tale the spasms as they have gotten so severe that they actually drop me on the ground,i can,t take it anymore. What I'm leading to is this, the best thing i have found is very simple and works. Go to the pharmacy and buy you a cotton cervical collar and ware it every chance you get ( I sleep with mine on) not recommended because sometimes you wake up stiffer. Reduce your meds if you can this is just A suggestion since I'm not a doctor, however after living in pain and trying all that i have i feel like i can offer these suggestions to you. It works so do it,Oh via get two opinions before you do anything as far as surgery,I'm consulting with my kids and all these things make a difference. Yes there is a lot of deppression that goes along with this, please tell me how old you are and if i have been helpful let me know, age has a lot to do with how you treat some of these problems.

Your friend in pain...Joe

Have you tried chiropractic or acupuncture? If you haven't give them a try. They have worked wonders.

ask for lidoderm patch prescription, it works for my neck pain, myofascial pain etc, but they can only be worn for 12 out of 24 hours. i have a herniated disc, spinal stenosis and a number of other problems in my c spine- these patches work on all of the problems.

Dear Pammiesue,

I have the identical symptoms and problems. I have been to every specialist to no avail. I have spent allot of time doing my own research. I came up with "Levator Spaculae". It fits every symptom you and I both have. Look it up on net and read up..bet you have this disorder too.

Dear Pamisue:

Levator Scapulae....look this disorder up....you have identical problems I have. After years of specialists and no help, I finally took a couple months and did my own research. I am certain I have this disorder and I will take the info on this disorder to the Spine Clinic this month in hopes they will refer to the a someone in the medical field that specializes in treating this disorder.
