Pelvic Bone pain-right and left side

Started by strat1959 on 03/27/2010 12:28pm

I have an L3/L4 extrused disc causing severe leg pain. I also have been having sharp pain in both sides of my pelvis bone. Has anyone had this? Has anyone had surgery that fixed it? Would the disc surgery relieve the pain in the pelvic bone area Thank You

February of last year I herniated the L5-S1 disc, which was displacing the right nerve roots. When they did the MRI it was discovered that I have DDD on that disc. I went through a series of oral steroids (Medrol Dosepak) and two epidural steroid injections before having microdiscectomy surgery in Aug.

When I described some of the pain I was experiencing in my buttocks and hips, the doctor told me that it sounded more like a problem with the joints where the hip bone connects to the sacrum. He remained focused on the disc issue and I felt the hip problem was ignored because he was a spine surgeon and didn't want to go outside of that field.

I re-ruptured the disc on the left side during physical therapy in November and took another series of oral steroids in December. I finally had another microdiscectomy in February of this year. In the past 2-3 months, the pain in my hips has been getting worse and they occassionally "pop", usually in the morning when I roll over in bed.

I also have a friend who was prescribed oral steroids and took them for weeks longer than he was supposed to before the doctor realized he was still taking them. My friend had to have both hips replaced (after I had already taken mine). The steroids caused the top of his femurs to die and become brittle.

I have an appointment with my doctor next week and will ask him about the hip pain. If you find out anything else, please post it and keep us informed.
