Cycling with bulging disc in L4-L5

Started by pak on 10/26/2011 1:57am

I am a cyclist (love to climb) and ride 4000-5000 miles a year. Along, with this I do high intensity exercises like plyometrics and programs such as Crossfit.I have been diagnosed with bulging disc at L4-L5 with a left paracentral annular tear a week ago. I have started physical therapy along with chiropractic care.
Can I ever get back to my regular exercise program? Approximately, how long does it take? What exercise (swimming, weights for the upper body) can I do in the mean time?
Cycling is my passion and I am concerned that I may not be able to get back to it.

The summary of my MRI is below:
1. Broad-based disc bulge at L4-L5 with mild left lateral recess
narrowing. Annular tear is seen at this level.

Thanks a lot for your support!
