Looking for Surgeon in Jacksonville FL Area for Thoracic Spinal Fusion

Started by max2361 on 01/26/2015 3:39pm

I was diagnosed with a severely herniated disc in my thoracic spine. I already have 2 herniated discs in my low back for the past 25 years that are herniated away fron the nerves. I was referred to a surgeon {Dr. Ali Chahlavi) at the St. Vincents Brain and Spinal Center and met with him last week. It seemed like he was trying to convince himself that he could successfully complete the surgery without the complications he mentioned. He said that he would need to remove the disc and stabilize the spine with screws and rods. I thought it might just be his manner and decided to check online for some reviews of previous patients. The only reviews I could find that wasn't just a number of stars were both very negative. I'm very skeptical of letting this surgeon operate on me me and hoped that I might get some advice. I seems that all the information I come across on a location or individual doctor is about equal parts extremely positive/extremely negative. I saw the ads for Laser Spine Institute and started looking at their reviews, again about 50% love/hate. His write up on Spine-Health seems better than most, so I don't know if I'm headed in the wrong direction. I just have a bad feeling about him and I don't know if it's warranted or not. I'd appreciate feedback that anyone can offer either on Dr. Chahlavi or on other spine surgeons in the area.
