Has anyone had these side effects from Radio Frequency Ablation?

Started by scarletalaska on 10/14/2013 7:49pm

I am hoping someone out there has been in the same boat.... I have had three lower back surgeries in the past 5 years. Starting with L4/L5 microdiscectomy in Osctober 08' that immediately re-herniated and I was back on the table in January of 09' to have another microdiscectomy at L4/L5 AND L5/S1. Both levels reherniated (again) and I ended up having a total disc replacement at L4/5 and fusion at L5/S1. I STILL had severe pain 2 years later. Last wednesday, I had bilateral RFA (radio frequency ablation) done and I immediately (on the table) had severe muscle spasms in my back and it got progressively worse through the weekend. The spasms moved into my abdominal region starting at the ribs and moving toward my belly button- terrible. Then if I moved the slightest bit wrong, the muscle spasms started in my upper thighs- it was so bad it felt like my muscles were ripping right off the bone. In fact- I feel like I have a pulled muscle in my stomach and another in my right thigh. Has anyone had anything similar to this?

Yes! I am hoping things improve in a month. After rhizotemy I now have awful muscle spasms and weakness and numbness. I can lay down and my brain tells my legs to lift but so weak it just doesn't register. I have follow up on 13th and hope this is normal and goes away. When living with chronic pain I am willing to try anything. I just hope this wasn't a mistake!!!
