NuVasive Fusion or ADR/TDR?
My name is Bill and I'm 36 years old. I'm new to the forum but unfortunately not new to back pain. For the past 10+ years I have been dealing with DDD at L4-L5 & L5-S1. I have used a non surgical approach of treatment called VAX-D which has helped me live my life virtually pain free for the past 6 years. The problem is that once I stabilized and felt like new again after a full year of core strengthening and cardio work....my wife was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer (Ewing's Sarcoma). I basically stopped exercising and just stopped everything basically. Now that my old friend back pain is back, I'm back to using VAX-D until my condition stabilizes again. Of course surgery is on the table as it once was but I'm torn. A friend of mine who some of you might know (UFC Fighter Nathan Quarry) has steered me towards NuVasive's XLIF & ALIF procedures but at the same time since the last time in considered surgery ADR has kind of gone up and down. The Charite disc has had recalls and I'm not sure how I feel about 2 level ADR with ProDisc if it's even available. The down side which Just leading me towards fusion with NuVasive is the fact that I have facet hypertrophy as well due to the DDD process. I won't I'm scared sh®tless about having a double fusion. I really Just want my life to be stable enough to be able to care for my wife. I'm going to give conservative therapy another college try and hopefully with time and proper exercising I'll be able to get back to where I was a year ago....pain free with full mobility. As of last week, my most recent MRI showed DDD @ L3-L4, L4-L5 & L5-S1 as well as bulging at those levels (L4-L5 showed a medium central herniation as well). Any positive affirmation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
