Question about spinal cord injuries from IED

Started by valerielynn82 on 04/14/2011 5:29pm

I'm doing research for a script that I'm writing and I'm hoping that you someone here can help me.

In my script one of my characters gets injured by an IED while serving in Afghanistan. My characters injury is going to be a spinal cord injury. I've been trying to do research online about spinal cord injuries from IED's and I can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

My first question is it possible to have a temporary spinal cord injury from an IED instead of a permanent injury? If its a temporary spinal cord injury would the person automatically regain feeling in their extremities or would they regain feeling over time? Would they experience any kind of pain in their extremities if they regained feeling? My next question is what other injuries can happen from an IED?

I emailed Walter Reed and asked them this question and the person that responded back sent me a link to this site.
