hardware removed

Started by gray809 on 08/06/2010 8:34pm

Hello fenspot thanks; no nerve damage but I do have spondylosis and a narrow spine with Degenerative Joint Disease. So I'm getting ready to undergo a surgery to remove my hardward to see if my pain improve. If not they will put a nerve stimulator into my back. At this time in my life I'm depress and can't do anything without having pain. Thank you so much....

I'll be keeping you in my prayers!!!!!

I had my hardware removed because the L4-5 screws were lose, causing me alot of pain. That was in April, and I continue to have back pain,my Dr. wants me to have anterior/posterior back fusion to place a plate in from the front to have the screws (from the back) a place to adhere. But I am really scared about this. Has anybody ever had this type of failed surgery? This will be my 3rd!?

Thank you. I will be praying for you too. After the hardware was removed it was evident that the L4-5 fusion did not attach,so now I am faced with having an anterior/posterior fusion. My Dr, wants to put a plate in anteriorly, then turn me over and place the screws in posterioraly. This sounds really scarey to me, but as the pain continues, I may have to resort to this....any suggestions??

The reason I had the hardware removed was because the lower (L4-5) were not attached to anything,so the fusion was incomplete. Now he wants to do the anterior fusion, going from the front to the back.
I am looking for more information on this proceedure.
I'll keep you in my prayers as well, it seems to be the only thing that really helps!!

I wish you well and success in having the hardware removed. I will be most interested in how it helps as I may face this problem/procedure myself. My latest myelogram showed that the screws are
misplaced after my fusion and are now the inferiorscrews are extending through the sacrum protrude through the anterior margin of the sacrum intothe presacral soft tissues. There are times that I am
unable to even sit down due to the pain that this may be causing. I was hoping to find if there were
incidents that required removal of some of the hardware that was put in place during the surgery.
It will help me a lot to follow your decision in this, should you have surgery or not. The initial surgery
went so bad and caused many problems that could have killed me had I not called an ambulance to
pick me up and take me quickly to the nearest hospital. That was 5 years ago and none of the pain from the surgery has ever decreased in intensity. Also, I don't know what damage this is causing me,
now since there are so many other problems with my spine.
I will keep you and your recovery in my prayers and hope that the outcome is successful for you.
May you not suffer from depression over this setback, but find hope in the procedure and you will
heal faster and hopefully have a fantastic wonderful recovery. Depression has never helped me to
improve my situation although it is difficult not to fall into that state emotionally. Have faith in the
surgeons and let them know that you are counting on them, let them know that you are not a symptom, but a live person who has entrusted your future to their skill and knowledge. It seems like
if they can see you or themself in this condition that they may give it extra special attention.
Good luck to you.

I was at the neurosurgeon just yesterday and asked him if they could remove the screws in my lower
lumbar spine and the definitive response was NO. Mine are causing me a lot of pain because they
are pushing into soft tissue. So any replies to this are very important to me. Since people are
posting that they are going to have some screws taken out I'm confused about the situation.
If I find out anything different, I will let you hear from me about it. Wish that I could give you the
answer you are looking for.

chello, hello I had one screw bothering me, so my neuro doctor, decided to remove all of my lumber fusion out. Now I'm back to ache and pains and burning in my right leg, back, and butt. They tell me my only option now in a nerve stimulator. I don't know what to do. I'm praying for a decision from God.

Well had the hardware removed on Sept 2 and now I have burning pain in both legs and my pain is bad. Now I have to wait to see my doctor on Nov 2 to talk about my next option of a nerve stimulator.
I've heard so many bad things about the stimulator. I don't know what to do, both hips hurt and my mri show nothing wrong with my hips. So, what I decided to do is pray and when I see my doctor I will have a answer if I want to do a trial of the stimulator or not. Good luck, keep in touch, I'll let you know my answer.

I had a laminoplasy C3-7 in 2006. Now a screw is loose on C-7 and I'm not wanting to do surgery again. It was a horrible recovery, although it's been ok for years and I have full movement of my neck. I felt something pop about 3 weeks ago...wonder if it was the screw. I have an appointment in 2 weeks with original surgeon. I hope I don't need surgery again. I don't know what I'll do.

kp..thats what happen to me, I bent down and I heard a pop. Saw my neuro doctor
and he did a mylegram on my back and it showed my screws were bent like fish hooks, and my rods had broken in half along with one plate. So, I decided to have all the hardware taken out except the bone graft. But now I'm paying the price, my pain is terrible, no feeling in my right foot or toes.I had alot of scar tissue, and my doctor took alot out, now I have RSD, a condition that attacks your nervous system...let me know how it goes...I will keep you in my prayers....
