non invaseve surgery didn't work

Started by downtownorl on 06/22/2010 3:25pm

had invaseve back surgery in january. Got back brace off in March on the 1st. Not but two weeks later, im in the same pain as before. Surgen said 70 to 100 percent to work. It didn't. Now he wants to do it again and said the disk is bulging again and hitting a nerve into my spine at l4. The pain i have is inhumane. Not even on a level, like all doctors want u to tell them. Is it on a scale of 1 to 10 and they don't like it when u say 10 pluss or off the charts. What to do, im only 43 and my kids are 14, 12, and 10. I am on ssd and have chronic pain, just simply inhumane pain and no human body was made to endure such a thing. So do i give it another shot and wear a back brace another month? Or do i dare do the dirty, full blown back surgery, removal of bone and replace with rod, pins, fuse, plates, you know the one month in hospital and 4 months bed ridden. Oh and the surgern's (yes i have been to 4 and pain management) all give me a crap shot, only 50 50 it might relieve me of pain. Should i yell lucky seven and roll the dice?

I'm in the same boat as you. My disc reherniatied after a discetomy, just 6 months ago. My surgeon wants to do a fusion. He wouldn't even give me an option of another discetomy because it would most likely reherniate again. So now I have to decide if I will go through with a fusion. I'm in the process of trying to get SSDI. I was denied once and then filed appeal 2 months ago. Haven't heard anything since, not looking good.

Hi, my name is Jan. I wish you were more in depth with all your symtoms and surgeries you've had and why. As far as that inhuman PAIN that you are having, I have a condition that is 24/7 just like you describe. It is called ARACHNOIDITIS. Don't laugh at the name, it is real! There is no relief for the pain except for drugs, spinal cord stimulators, and the pain pump. There also is no cure and the pain is comparable to cancer pain only without the benefit of death. There is a suicide rate that I'd rather not mention at this time. It is caused from the medications in epidurl shots, and other procedurs Drs. do on people. Having back surgery, shots, anything to do with your spine. It has been called Failed back syndrome also. The pain is... numeness in a leg and foot with cold toes, sciatic nerve pain in butt, hip, leg, severe un godly pain in lower back. Plus I now have two bulging discs. If you think you have these kind of symptoms, remember, every time a needle is put in the spine you WILL get scar tissue. That will thicken and push on nerves and other organs in the back. I had a ruptured disk and had surgery, also had a cervical fushion before that. I also had 2 epidurls which did nothing for the pain, just caused more scar tissue. Oh, add 3 more epidurls for giving birth to 3 boys. I had a "spinal" with all 3 and just fount out that was an epidurl also. If the Dr. performing these shots had only looked up my mri, he wouldn't have given me the shots in the first place, knowing they are harmful. The 3rd time I asked him to pull up my mri and shoot me up somewhere else cause they haven't worked so far. He did and I thought he was going to explode with rage. He turned to me and screamed I can't give you this shot , you have Arachnoiditis. That's how I found out. Here I had this for the past 2 years and My pmr Dr. never said a thing, and he still sent me. That was last Oct. and am very seriously thinking of a law suit. I would like for you to go to COFWA and explore the links there. You can find out the causes and everything about this. Or you could just type in the word itself (arachnoiditis) I hope that you aren't on your way to getting this. Drs. won't even talk about it because they know they are responsible. Very hard to find a new Dr. because they don't want to deal with you. Also, if you do get a copy of your mri, go to... adriaanliebenberg terminology. This site will define every thing on a lumbar ct or mri. All those words and conditions etc... you will know exactly what you have that the Dr. doesn't explain or does rather poorly. I hope you don't have this, but reading up on it will definately educate you on what your next move will be concerning your back. Keep me posted on your care and what you think of this disease and if you did learn something. I want to educate everyone I come into contact that has disc problems etc... Good luck to you, Jan

Hi downtownorl,
I have 10 plus pain every day. I hope you didn`t paid for the in invasive surgery. Am I correct its laser surgery? My surgeon doesn't have to advertise with any website. We have to wait six weeks to two months to be seen by one .All laser surgery centers do because they don't work! If they do it's for a week or month. I almost got conned by a laser surgery centers also. laser surgery $25,000 out of pocket. According to them at three laser surgery centers 85% 93% Fix. Walking perfect after no pain. Sounded great the easy way out. Go on the websites they are all the same conning people. Yes I am upset about laser surgery centers they've lied to me and conned many like they did you. I was just lucky to have a friend and a doctor said don't do it unless you're insurance pays for all the procedure. I don't live in a big city but the doctors said if it worked It would be here. The laser surgery centers have people on this forum selling laser surgery to all of us to. Acting like they're one of us lying to all of us. Fusion surgery which I'm having done. The percentages of being pain-free really suck. I'm not expert in this. This is what I've heard. 33% better, 33% stay the same in 33% get worse after fusion. I believe these are true odds on this surgery. Surgeons say 60 to 90% get better I hope they are right. I would like to run away and hide. Wish this was a bad dream. I also have children 14 and 7 years old and a wife. I think you know what you have to do. The sooner the better you get rid of the pain before you end up killing Yourself. I've been on narcotic pain pills for approximately 13 years I can't wait to get off them. How many other pains in my body at 48 do I have that narcotic pain pills are covering. I hope to find out soon. Good luck with your decision please keep me posted. I will let you know how my fusion goes. Sam

Have you ever thought that maybe a herniated disc is not caused by a lack of surgery?

Find out what caused your disc to herniate in the first place, then treat that.

Hint: you can't treat a fitness problem with a medical solution.

what a pain problems have you had? Till two years ago I was a very physically fit person in a very active job. So being fit has nothing to do with my back problems. I was always a little overweight but nothing major. I was very physically fit and strong. In two years I have gained 30 pounds. I feel like I'm fat and old now. My back definitely is. Chronic pain takes a toll on our lifes. I think this problems come from being active and fit. This is my experiences. Sam

Dear Sam227

15 years ago I got a very sore back - I think it was the rowing machine.I couldn't sneeze or cough without this incredibly sharp pain in my back.

I couldn't bend over the basin to brush my teeth. I had trouble putting on my socks. I had to warm it up every morning in the shower before I could get going.

Then I started doing exercises that other people showed me. One woman said her back got better by loosening of her hamstring muscles every morning after her shower. Another woman said her back got better from doing the cat and dog exercise.

A masseur showed me how to loosen of my buttock muscles.

I went to the Egoscue Clinic in San Deigo and got more exercises. I found I wasn't as strong as I thought I was. They taught me the static back and supine groin stretch exercises which are very, very useful. I recommend you do them for an hour a night.

After a couple of months doing these exercises every night, I was in bed waiting to sneeze - expecting the worst - and nothing happened. All fixed.

Most of these exercises come from yoga. It's been around for 3000 years. I'd bet on it and I'd get started today.

Good luck

I`m in so much pain. I can't really do any real exercise. Are there any websites that would show us these exercises? Or is it just yoga? I did the physical therapy/chiropractor everything I could . Of course nothing helped. Thanks for your thoughts and ideas. Sam

Go here

http://www.crookback.com.au/emergency_exercises.htm

All you have to do is lie on the floor for a couple of hours and relax while you watch TV or read a book.

About all I do now is walk. I can walk about a mile it's hard for me to get started. If I make the first couple hundred feet I'm okay. My surgery as a 22 July so I'm been trying to do a few summer things. I've been to three surgeons now . They All Say Surgery Is My only option. It would be nice just to exercise daily and feel great sounds good. I wish that would fix/help me. The last surgeon I went to said I have two fusions ahead of me. This surgeon is not the one doing my back surgery. He said I needed a fusion of my neck also. If he was working on me that would've been done first. My back is so bad the pain is unbearable 10 plus daily. I take lots of painkillers 2 OxyContin 60s, 8 oxycodone15s and 2 mobic a day they don't work anymore. I am really messed up real bad from the work I did all my life. I was in physically good shape till about a year ago. Thank you for your thoughts and help. I will keep you informed how my first fusion goes. Sam

Nikon and I have directed you to some simple relaxing exercise designed to get your pelvis and the bones above it back into better alignment.

Have you started doing them?

You should get great relief from lying in these positions.

There is a high likelihood that tight hamstring and buttock muscles have taken your pelvis out of alignment - and with it the bones up above it.

Start squaring yourself off with the exercises Nikon and I have been using and you should start feeling better. There more where they came from.

Did you send in your photos?

Start with a couple of hours on the floor.

If you can spend all day doing them so much the better.

John25,

oi, oi, oi!

I've been away for a while.

Thanks for your encouragement. I'd love to correspond with you. I also come from the land of Oi, Oi, Oi.

Throughout the musculo-skeletal health industry there is a persistent reluctance of doctors and therapists to look for the cause of the pain. I think this is through ignorance. No-one has ever told them where to look.

Which is a pity because people are groaning and travailing in pain, not only before their surgery but after it as well.

When tight and weak muscles allow the body to go out of alignment it stands to reason that loosening the tight muscles and strengthening the weak muscles might just be the best route to restoring poor function to good. It would certainly be worth a try - lying on the floor doing the exercises for a couple of hours a night for a couple of months should do the trick.

In my experience, the Spine Universe site does not go out of its way to encourage thoughtful consideration of this method of pain removal.

Regards Nikon.

PPS I noted an advert from Jesse Canone on this site. He's got a good reputation and his stuff is well worth following up.
