L4-S1 herniation and DDD

Started by philupd on 05/01/2010 4:25am

So my MRI shows L4-S1 herniation and DDD at L5-S1 level but my back pain is higher up near the T12 area. Is there any way that my L4-S1 disc is causing the back pain, that high up? My doctor has ordered another MRI to see if there is any other problems.

It could be the root of your problem...our backs carry alot of nerves and stress. The stress on your L4-S1 could be enough to make all your muscles and nerves get pissed off. It only takes one bad gear to screw up the works. I know that saying is a little different and you'll have to excuse me for that...but I can blame the cat infront of my monitor or the pain meds for messing with my head. She sure is cute though....
Have you ever gotten a really good massage? One where you can feel it in different parts of your body? Think of it like that...your muscles have alot to say in your back too. Get ahold of a local college or school that teaches massage therapy and go get a cheap but awesome massage, see if that helps. Just my opinion.

I agree with Wendi, when I had my herniation at L4-S1 and it effected my shoulder...i felt it in my left shoulder we are all wired different so you really can't say. Hopefully the next MRI will show something.

There's a good chance u may have sum issues in ur thoracic or cervical regions. I'd recommend getting mri's of both those areas to be sure. Hope u feel better soon, plz keep us posted on what u find, take care.:)

I got the results for my MRI for the thoracic and everything looked good. I also had a MRI for my lumbar and shows reherniation at L5-S1 level after 6 months post op from a microdiscetomy.
