neck pain to arm painand 2 MRIs...

Started by mvalfre on 04/30/2010 4:22pm

i am looking for some input on what could be wrong with my sister.

she is 41, very healthy, has two little boys and has no past health issues.

last week she woke up one morning with a stiff neck. she figured she just slept on it wrong, it remained sore but she went on. then a few days later she woke up with severe pain in her right arm, pain so bad she went to the ER. they gave her an MRI and some pain meds and muscle relaxers and sent her home. the pain meds did nothing to help. she was in so much pain, she could not do anything but lay on her back with one arm raised. she went to a doctor again and they continued the meds and did another MRI. they said there appears to be a problem between discs 5 and 6. the pain meds still are not helping. she is contantly crying in pain. she cannot hold her boys or pour a drink or sit up, just lays there.

what on earth could be wrong?

Have her see a Pain Specialist. They do wonders for me for my lower back and neck.

Hi, sorry to hear about the hell your sister is going thru!!! Sounds like she may have a pinched nerve. What exactly did the MRI say? Does she have herself a neurologist or neurosurgeon? Id recommend finding one and also a pain management dr like the person above me said. I know nerve damage pain...and their isn't anything worse than that!!! Plz keep me posted on how ur sister does and what she and her dr decide to do. *hugs*

I suggest your sister also see a Rheumatologist. It certainly wouldn't hurt.

Best of luck to your sister.

She needs to have a CT Scan and see a neurosurgeon. It sounds like she might have a herniated or ruptured disc in her neck. A neurologist or neurosurgeon is the key here. If you have radiating pain and she has been told that there is an issue at C5-6, then the next step is to make an appt. to a specialist and get things moving. Hope this helps.

hi I had the same symptoms and it was some sort of pinched nerve, nothing seems to help just take the edge off, it finally subsided on its own in about 6 weeks. If it continues or gets worse with new symptoms I would go to a pain specialist to help, that is where I am heading this friday myself. Hope all goes well with your sister ans the pain starts easing off...

This is the deal. I woke up one day my neck was stiff I thought I slept on it wrong and 4 days later I ended up having a bone fusion C4-C6, My right arm was numb in the finger and I had a bad pain in my right arm. The MRI tells the tail. My first fusion didn't take but I didn't sit around and relax and here I sit because I had to have a second one. I am not a doctor but she need to see a nurologist not a doctor. Hope it helps.
