Injured back in Motorcycle Accident, in pain everyday

Started by SueB. on 03/11/2010 5:42pm

I was injured in a motorcycle accident in June of 2009, I am unable to find doctor in my area to treat my injuries because I have no health insurance. Medicaid if i get it will flag all accident related injuries and not pay for them. I can't work and the Insurance company will only make a one time settlement for the injuries so I must pay all expenses out of pocket. I feel like I'm on a merrygoround. My lawyer has no answers for me. I was able to find one wonderful local doctor to treat my knee and preform surgery on me and wait for the conclussion of the case. But no help for my back. I can't be the only one in the position any suggestions would be appreciated greatly
Thanks

Hi there: I just saw your letter in the post and my heart goes out to you! I am a 53 year old sufferer from a motorcycle accident way back in 70's as a teenager! I have had chiropractic treatment ever since I was 19 which was 2 years before any doctor ever saw me after that accident! I will tell you that good quality chiropractic has kept me at a functioning level of health and mobility!! For most of us that is the real maintenance we should have if we do indeed have things misaligned in our backs & necks! Mine was a severe case and I will tell you that it took awhile to find the right chiro but it has more than been worth it. Even though the money situation is bad and I also understand that there are many high quality practitoners who will work with you to find out the nature of your injuries which is first & foremost! Whatever it takes go to one and plead your case to at least get to what your situation is!!! Some will work with you to help alleviate the suffering!!!! If your injuries are beyond their ability to help they will at least refer you to someone who can help! The longer you wait , the more permanent your injuries will be like mine. I didn't even know what a chiropractor was until 2 years later! I was 19 with no money either!

Thanks for info I have seen a chiropractor several times but it seems sometimes that it does more harm than good. Didn't have much trouble with neck when he started but then now it seems strained and other have mentioned to me that he should be doing x rays in addition to and maybe MRI to pin point specific problematic areas. Maybe I should try another chiropractor. Also I have been calling and found a Dr. yesterday I can plead my case with before he turns me down., Crossing fingers
Thanks for responding

Definitely get the x-Ray it doesn't cost as much. The MRI is expensive around $1200 depending on the facility. I worry because pain is something that there is a cause for and you should find the cause. The insurance from the auto accident should be helping not hindering and if so get a lawyer (I find it hard to believe that the doctors won't sign to get payment from the settlement) because I was in an auto accident and Ii did not do that until it was too late, and now I have no hope of ever getting better 15 years later. A motorcycle accident is much more damaging,I would think, so make sure you get treatment. There are so many treatments and chiro helped me a little, but also harmed me in some areas. If you have strong muscle core, go for it and physical therapy too. I had some relief with accumpuncture but it was more expensive than chiro or physical therapy! I've tried them all except surgery - as I'm not a candidate for it as my back fused naturally over time in locations that are undesirable. That means I had natural and free surgery but It causes sciatic pain though and I'd recommend you get to the bottom of this ASAP even if you have to take out a loan for the MRI!
Do what it takes or pay for it later. Take care of YOU!!!

Sorry to hear of your problem. I myself had a accident when I was about 34 and I also had the same problem of no doctor willing to operate as long as I was able to go. They wound not operate due to age, now 20 years later I have had a fusion and 2 operations to clean out glass and bone and trash that was coming out. I found that the doctors would not do something for my back as long as I was able to walk some how. Also, it took me over 2 years to get on SSI for my back.I don't know how long you have been in this condition but, don't give up. Good Luck..........

Thanks for all the positive feedback from everyone it helps to know that I'm not the only one in this position. I only wish that one incredibly compassionate Dr. could read my post and offer to help. But maybe with the changes to health-care policies in this country help may be just around the corner. One can only hope. By the off chance that a Dr. does read this post I live in Western NY and as you know with motorcycle insurance if you don't have a rider for medical injuries then you have to wait for the conclusion of the treatment to be paid for medical expenses in one lump sum from the insurance company. The only reason I am covered at all was because I was a passenger . My boyfriend did not have coverage at all and unfortunately his 5 day stay in hospital is being challenged by BCBS they don't want to pay even though there was no coverage by motorcycle insurance. A piece of advice to anyone purchasing motorcycle insurance make sure you request this rider it is imperative that you have it or you too may end up in my position. My boyfriends agent never even told him about this law. Thus he assumed that he had health coverage. Motorcycle is not the same as automobile insurance. Personally I think this problem should be addressed by the insurance industry. Needless to say we have switched insurance carriers and this year when he registers the bike health coverage will be included in the policy. To all other motorcycle riders and drivers pay close attention to your policy coverage. A beautiful day of riding for a 50 plus couple just putting along has turned into a nightmare.

To drive a motorcycle you have to have a lot of courage and a little bit of madness and if you had an Life Insurance that insurance had been paid for the treatments you need for the pain to disappear .
