Doctor
Hallett Mathews is an Associate Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic
Surgery and Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical
College of Virginia. He is a board certified Orthopaedic surgeon
in private practice at MidAtlantic Spine Specialists in Richmond
and Williamsburg, Virginia. Dr. Mathews hold hospital affiliations
at Medical College of Virginia Hospitals as well as HealthSouth
Medical Center, Henrico Doctors’ Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital
in Richmond and Williamsburg Community Hospital in Williamsburg.
Dr. Mathews specializes in spine and trauma and his research
focus is Minimally Invasive Techniques in the Spine and Development
of Techniques and Research Protocols.
Dr. Mathews
earned his Medical Degree at Virginia Commonwealth University,
Medical College of Virginia and his surgical internship was
through the university’s hospitals. Following the general surgery
internship, Dr. Mathews did a residency program with emphasis
in spine. He is a society fellow of the American Academy of
Orthopaedic Surgery and the North American Spine Society (NASS).
As a NASS member, he is on the Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery
Committee and is Chairman of the Continuing Medical Education
Committee.
Dr. Mathews
gives presentations and lectures at scientific meetings and
universities worldwide. He has published numerous journal articles
and posters and he has contributed over 15 chapters to medical
texts. He is on the editorial board of Spine. Dr. Mathews’ research
has led to two patents, the Mathews’ Locking Bolt and a Method
for Subcutaneous, Suprafascial Pedicular Internal Fixation with
many other patents pending.
Dr. Mathews
is a member of the SpineUniverse Editorial Board.
