Lawrence G. Lenke, M.D.

Dr. Lawrence
Lenke is Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Washington University
School of Medicine. At Washington University he also holds two
other positions, the Director of Orthopaedic Residency Program
and Attending Spinal Surgeon. Additionally, he holds Hospital
Appointments at Shriners Hospital for Children, as the Director
of Spinal Surgery, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children's
Hospital, John Cochran Veteran's Administration Hospital and
Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital. Aside from Academic and
Hospital Appointments, Dr. Lenke is a Spine Consultant for several
professional sports teams in the St. Louis area.
Dr. Lenke's
practice is limited to pediatric and adult spinal surgery with
an emphasis on complex reconstructive surgery and the treatment
of various spinal deformities such as scoliosis.
Following
a medical degree at Northwestern University Medical School,
Dr. Lenke did his internship and residency at Washington University
School of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery. Also while at Washington
University, he did a fellowship in Pediatric and Adult Spinal
Surgery. In 1994 Dr. Lenke received Board Certification from
the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Lenke
is an active member of professional societies including: the
American Medical Association, American Academy of Orthopaedic
Surgeons, Scoliosis Research Society, North American Spine Society,
American Orthopaedic Association, Southern Orthopaedic Association,
and the American Spinal Injury Association.
Since 1993
Dr. Lenke has been an active researcher in the spine field,
and a recipient of major grants to pursue research. His peers
have acknowledged the merit of his research with various honors
such as four notable awards from the Scoliosis Research Society
and two awards from the American Orthopaedic Association.
As an author,
Dr. Lenke has contributed 20 chapters to medical textbooks,
more than 60 articles to scientific peer-reviewed journals,
and 85 scientific abstracts. He is also is an editor for textbooks
and scientific journals.
He has
chaired professional meetings worldwide, and he has given papers
or presentations over 170 times at professional meetings. He
has been an invited lecturer 99 times and has accepted 13 visiting
professorships. He has also participated in two International
Traveling Fellowships in the field of spinal surgery.
For four
years running, Dr. Lenke has been listed in "The Best Doctors
in America".
Dr. Lenke
