John
C. Oakley, M.D.
Doctor
John Oakley is Chief of the Department of Surgery at Northwest
Hospital in Seattle. He is part of a private practice called
Yellowstone Neurosurgical Associates. Additional hospital appointments
held by Dr. Oakley are: Swedish Medical Center at Ballard and
Seattle, Overlake Hospital Medical Center, and Saint Vincent
Hospital and Health Center. Dr. Oakley has held an academic
appointment at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center
as Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery.
Dr. Oakley
earned his Medical Degree from the University of Washington
School of Medicine. His Surgical Internship was at the University
of Cincinnati Medical Center followed by military service in
the United States Public Health Service as a Senior Assistant
Neurogsurgeon, Lieutenant Commander Naval Equivalent Rank. Dr.
Oakley was then in Neurosurgical Residency at the University
of Washington. During his residency, Dr. Oakley received the
Upjohn Award for Humanitarian Concern and Clinical Skill.
Dr. Oakley
is a member of many professional organizations including: the
American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological
Surgeons, AANS/CNS Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine and
Peripheral Nerves, AANS Section on Pain, American Medical Association,
American Pain Society, and North American Spine Society. He
is the founding member of the American Neuromodulation Society.
Principal
areas of research and experience of Dr. Oakley's are electrophysiology
of Epilepsy, functional electrical stimulation of the nervous
system and etiology and control of chronic intractable pain.
He has published 15 articles in scientific journals and contributed
two chapters to medical books. Dr. Oakley lectures and gives
presentations extensively on his areas of research.
Dr. Oakley
is a member of the SpineUniverse Editorial Board.
