Doctor Brian Kwon is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics
at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Dr. Kwon specializes in adult spinal
disorders and practices at UBC's Combined Neurosurgical and Orthopaedics Spine
Program.
Dr. Kwon earned a medical degree from Queen's University at Kingston, Ontario
and completed an orthopaedic surgical residency at UBC's department of orthopaedics.
Further, Dr. Kwon completed a Clinical Spine Fellowship at The Rothman Institute
and Thomas Jefferson University, located in Philadelphia, PA. He pursued graduate
studies after his residency and received a PhD in Neuroscience studying spinal
cord regeneration.
As a clinician-scientist, Dr. Kwon has made a commitment to research. Following
his orthopaedic residency he pursued basic science research in the field of
spinal cord regeneration. He continued his research in Vancouver and became
part of the International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries (ICORD), a multidisciplinary
center that collectively brings together the expertise of numerous researchers
striving for a cure for spinal cord injuries.
Dr. Kwon continues to actively pursue research in this field. Dr. Kwon has
received many academic honors and distinctions for his research, which has been
widely published in journals and textbooks.
