Michael J. DePalma, MD completed his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency
training at The Ohio State University and subsequently completed Interventional
Spine Care fellowship training at the internationally renowned Penn Spine Center
at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He obtained his medical degree
from the Medical University of South Carolina in his native state after earning
a bachelor of science degree in Neuroscience, and a certificate in Conceptual
Foundations of Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh.
Doctor DePalma has earned various honors and accolades. He is board certified
in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in which he scored in the top 1%. During
his training, he served as chief resident, and earned the Ernest W. Johnson
Academic Achievement Award and Elsie Adler Physiatry Research Award. He is an
active member of several professional and scientific societies such as the American
Academy of Physical Medical and Rehabilitation (PM&R); Physiatric Association
of Spine, Sport, and Occupational Rehabilitation; North American Spine Society;
International Spine Intervention Society; and, American College of Sports Medicine.
Doctor DePalma has authored or co-authored more than 55 scientific abstracts,
peer-reviewed articles, or book chapters, and has presented at numerous national
and international conferences.
Currently, Doctor DePalma serves as Medical Director of the Virginia Commonwealth
University Spine Center in Richmond Virginia and Director of the Interventional
Spine Care fellowship program, and is an Associate Professor in the Department
of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Virginia Commonwealth University/
Medical College of Virginia. He is currently involved as a co-investigator or
the principal investigator on multiple spine clinical research trials.
