Dr. Scheman graduated Cum Laude, with honors in psychology, at the University of Washington, Seattle, Washington. She earned an M.A. and Ph.D. at Kent State University, Kent, Ohio.

Dr. Scheman is a member of the American Psychological Association and American Pain Society. She is the author of several articles and has presented at many national and international conferences.
