Dr. Perez-Cruet is a neurosurgeon and the Director of Minimally Invasive Spinal
Surgery at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago. He is also
the Associate Director of the Institute for Spine Care at Silver Cross Hospital
in Joliet, Illinois.
Dr. Perez-Cruet received a master's degree in chemistry from the University
of South Florida and his medical degree from Tuft's University in Boston. He
completed a general surgery internship and a neurological surgery residency
at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and a fellowship in minimally invasive
spinal surgery at Rush University in Chicago under SpineUniverse Editorial Board
Member Richard Fessler, MD. During his medical training, Dr. Perez-Cruet became
a Major in the United States Air Force.
Dr. Perez-Cruet has held numerous academic appointments including Instructor,
Trauma Course for Military Surgeons; Clinical Assistant Professor, Uniformed
Services University of Health Science in Bethesda, Maryland; Clinical Assistant
Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Texas Health
Science Center in San Antonio, Texas; Clinical Instructor in the Department
of Neurosurgery at Rush-Presbyterian St. Lukes Medical Center in Chicago; and
currently holds the position of Assistant Professor and Director of Minimally
Invasive Spine Surgery at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center Chicago/Institute
of Neurosurgery and Neuroresearch in Chicago, Illinois.
In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Perez-Cruet holds a variety of professional
positions within such prestigious organizations as the Council of State Neurosurgical
Societies (CSNS), the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) and the American
Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS). He is also a member of the North
American Spine Society, the American Medical Association, the American College
of Surgeons, the Texas Medical Association, the Houston Neurological Society,
the Bexar County Medical Society, and the Sigma Xi Research Society.
To date, Dr. Perez-Cruet is the author of a textbook on outpatient spinal surgery
and has contributed to 16 textbook chapters. In addition, he has authored over
30 articles and abstracts in such noted publications as Neurosurgery
and the Journal of Neurovascular Disease and has made 19 presentations
at prestigious medical meetings across the country. He is currently the principal
investigator in several clinical research studies on a wide variety of aspects
of spinal surgery.
Dr. Perez-Cruet is fluent in Spanish and lives with his wife and family in
the Chicago area.
