Stuart holds postgraduate qualifications in Manipulative Physiotherapy and Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) from the McKenzie Institute. His special interest is the McKenzie Method of spinal therapy and he is the clinical educator for the postgraduate diploma programme endorsed in MDT at the School of Physiotherapy. Stuart is on the Editorial Review Panel of the International Journal of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy. In addition he is the secretary for the NZ branch of the McKenzie Institute. Stuart is also involved in supervising undergraduate clinical education in the School clinics, and has an interest in the use of Clinical Pilates in physiotherapy.

Stuart is currently studying towards a Masters in Physiotherapy by research thesis. His research topic is looking at the effect of different seating conditions on head and neck posture.
