Gary W. Jay, MD, has worked in pain medicine since 1980. For the first 25 years of his career, he was a private practitioner running a tertiary care interdisciplinary pain center and worked with pharmaceutical companies as a consultant part-time. Since 2005, he has been a full-time consultant. Dr. Jay was one of the original founding members of the American Academy of Algology, now the American Academy of Pain Medicine, and helped to develop the subspecialty of pain medicine. He has multiple certifications including pain, neurorehabilitation, and forensic medicine. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles as well as authored medical textbook chapters. He has lectured nationally and internationally for more than 30 years. At Pfizer, in New London, Connecticut, his position was clinical disease area expert–pain. He then became executive vice president and chief medical officer of Archimedes Pharma in Bedminster, New Jersey. He is currently a pain medicine/management consultant, as well as a consultant to pharma.
