About Kee D. Kim, MD

Doctor Kim is a neurosurgeon and chief of spinal neurosurgery. He has a special interest and expertise in dealing with challenging spinal disorders requiring surgical treatment. He has vast experience in complex spine surgery, regardless of etiology, including tumor, infection, degenerative spine and trauma. He is at the forefront of computer-assisted spine surgery, minimally invasive surgery and spinal instrumentation.

As a co-director of the UC Davis Spine Center, Dr. Kim is involved in multiple clinical trials as a primary investigator. He evaluates different cutting-edge technology, such as artifical disc and minimally invasive surgery. Although his research focus is primarily clinical, he is also involved in studying peridural fibrosis and spinal cord regeneration.

Case Studies Presented by Kee D. Kim, MD

Thoracic Herniated Disc

Presented by: K. Kim MD

The patient is a 58-year-old man with mid-back pain. The patient reported pain that wrapped around his rib cage to the front of his chest and intermittent "electric-shock" sensation to his left anterior thigh. Although he mentioned more recent difficulty with walking his chief complaint still was mid-back pain.

Basilar Invagination

Presented by: K. Kim MD

The patient is a 67-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis whose chief complaints are facial numbness, and neck and occipital pain. She also has progressive arm and leg weakness with increased pain. Her diagnosis is basilar invagination.
