About Brian K. Kwon, MD

Dr. Brian Kwon is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Dr. Kwon specializes in adult spinal disorders and practices at UBC's Combined Neurosurgical and Orthopaedics Spine Program.

Dr. Kwon earned a medical degree from Queen's University at Kingston, Ontario and completed an orthopaedic surgical residency at UBC's department of orthopaedics. Further, Dr. Kwon completed a Clinical Spine Fellowship at The Rothman Institute and Thomas Jefferson University, located in Philadelphia, PA. He pursued graduate studies after his residency and received a PhD in Neuroscience studying spinal cord regeneration.

As a clinician-scientist, Dr. Kwon has made a commitment to research. Following his orthopaedic residency he pursued basic science research in the field of spinal cord regeneration. He continued his research in Vancouver and became part of the International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries (ICORD), a multidisciplinary center that collectively brings together the expertise of numerous researchers striving for a cure for spinal cord injuries.

Dr. Kwon continues to actively pursue research in this field. Dr. Kwon has received many academic honors and distinctions for his research, which has been widely published in journals and textbooks.
