Dr. James Harrop is a neurosurgeon and Assistant Professor in the Departments of Neurological and Orthopedic Surgery at Jefferson Medical College/Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. 

Dr. Harrop received his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in 1995. He also completed his internship (in general surgery) and his residency (in neurosurgery) at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. In addition, Dr. Harrop completed a 6-month rotation in pediatric neurosurgery at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. To further his spinal surgery training, Dr. Harrop also completed a combined neurosurgical and orthopaedic spine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland Ohio.

He is a member of numerous prestigious medical organizations such as the American Medical Association, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the Pennsylvania Neurological Society.

Dr. Harrop is an experienced lecturer, giving numerous national and international presentations on spinal disorders, neuroscience and neuroanatomy. Present research interests include surgical approaches for spinal cord injury and neural regeneration.
