Sen. Obama’s Health Care Plan: How Are You Going to Help Kids?
SpineUniverse submitted health care-related questions to both the Obama and McCain campaigns. Sen. McCain did not respond, but you can research his health care plans here. Below is Sen. Obama’s answer to the third question.
Question 3: When families are struggling financially, it is often the children who are hurt the most. How will you try to improve the health care services received by children whose families aren’t able to make ends meet?
Joe Biden and I will require that all children have health care coverage.
When children are born, their parents will have assistance in signing them up for affordable, quality coverage. That coverage could come through the parents’ employer-sponsored insurance plans, through Medicaid or SCHIP, or through affordable options established by the Obama-Biden plan.
The Obama-Biden plan will help parents make sure their children get the care they need, at the time they need it.
Additionally, we will expand the number of options for young adults to get coverage by allowing young people up to age 25 to continue coverage through their parents’ plans.
Our administration will expand eligibility for the Medicaid and SCHIP programs and ensure that these programs continue to serve their critical safety net function for low-income children and their parents.
