Paroxetine (Paxil)
Paxil is the brand name for paroxetine. This prescription medication is an
anti-depressant used to treat depression, panic disorder, generalized anxiety
disorder (uncontrolled worrying), social anxiety disorder (fear of interacting
with others), obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Depressive disorders may affect patients with back or neck pain, especially
when pain is chronic. Paroxetine is in a class of medications called selective
serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Paxil works by increasing the amount
of serotonin, a natural substance in the brain that helps maintain mental balance.
