Fentanyl topical (Duragesic)

Duragesic is the brand name for topical fentanyl. Topical means the drug enters the body through a patch worn on the skin (transdermal). This prescription medication is a narcotic pain reliever. It is prescribed to treat moderate to severe pain and chronic pain. Duragesic is a potent synthetic, man-made narcotic. The drug stimulates nerve receptors in the brain and increases the pain threshold, or level of discomfort the patient feels is painful.
