Carbamazepine (Tegretol)

Tegretol is the brand name for carbamazepine. This prescription medication is an anti-convulsant that may be prescribed alone, or with other medications. Tegretol may be used to treat trigeminal neuralgia (facial nerve pain), some depressive disorders (e.g. depression, mania, bipolar I, mood disorders, post-traumatic stress), restless legs syndrome, and certain pain syndromes. Depressive disorders may affect patients with back or neck pain, especially when pain is chronic. Carbamazepine works by reducing abnormal excitement in the brain.
