Amitriptyline (Elavil)
Elavil is the brand name for amitriptyline. This prescription medication is a tricyclic anti-depressant used treat depression. Amitriptyline also elevates mood. Depression may affect patients with back or neck pain, especially when pain is chronic. Elavil works by increasing the amounts of certain natural substances in the brain needed to maintain mental balance.
